Coaches comment

Past versus Present - 12 - 5 Loss

Today was a massive improvement on saturdays game. Attitude was on track and as a result performance on field was much improved. Keeping possession of the ball was far better and we were able to use this possession of the ball a little better and gave ourselves a number of opportunities to score. Failure to take these opportunities still needs to be addressed because until we do - we will continue to play good rugby expansive rugby, But still end up the bridesmaid.
In the forwards I observed us use "cars" effectively when out in the open. In close quarters need to use "grind". Need to have one off & two runners. remind me to work on this on saturday before game against katikati. lineouts - excellent job by everyone. Need to look at using the drive a lot more, especially going front, middle or back if Aaron & Willys are able to take clean un-contested ball. TAP Backs???? are trouble. Close to our own line -forwards will drive & Piri will either clear himself or 1st receiver will clear for touch.
Backs as stated earlier far better performance - greater commitment to keep possession of the ball when going wide & NOT TOO many pass the HOT POTATO. Strong cut back running & changing of angles. Good backs have confidence, Good backs need to think positively and need to encourage & support one another even when we make some shockers. KICKING- Learn the rule or face my constant reminder.
Tomorrow we will meet at lunchtime as usual - hope to have a few highlights to share. Need to know who is taking transport & who needs transport. We will leave from Chapel carpark at 10.15am - not arrive at 10.15am so be early. Dress is tracksuit etc and you will need your "number ones"
Today you can hold your heads up high as you have shown your elders (Only by a few years) that you have grown up and are more than capable of mixing it with them. So I beleive you have gained their respect after your efforts today.
